Man beats his mum to death two days after being released from Prison after 30-year murder sentence

Two days after completing a 30-year prison sentence for a 1984 murder conviction, a New Jersey man allegedly killed his 64-year-old mother. 
On Wednesday, Steven Pratt, 47, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, admitting his role in his mother's beating death, police say. 

A statement from prosecutors obtained by PEOPLE confirms Pratt, an Atlantic City resident who lived with his mother, repeatedly struck his mother Gwendolyn Pratt in the head the morning of Oct. 12, 2014. Police responded to the Pratt home that morning and found Gwendolyn's lifeless body inside. 

The statement says officers immediately took Pratt into custody and an autopsy later revealed the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head. 

Pratt faces 25 more years behind bars when he is sentenced within the next few months, police say. 

On Oct. 10, 2014, Pratt was released from a New Jersey prison, where he'd spent the previous three decades for the fatal shooting of Michael Anderson. 

When he was 15, Anderson caught Pratt smoking marijuana with friends and confronted the boy. 

During that incident, Pratt struck Anderson in the face with a lead pipe. After being hit, Anderson retreated, but hours later, Pratt knocked on his apartment's door. When he opened it, Pratt shot Anderson.

Scandals that rocked entertainment scene in 2015

Among other scandals that rocked social media
in Nigeria in 2015, fans of popular singer,
Timaya, had something to worry about when
their idol was accused of rape by a relatively
unknown woman resident in the United States of
America.
The woman claimed, in a series of messages
posted on Instagram , the singer had sex with
her without her consent.
Although Timaya denied that he forced himself
on the woman, she went on to produce a
medical report to prove her point. She also
shared a screenshot of the report on Instagram,
which also showed the date that the alleged
offence was committed.
Toyin Aimakhu and husband
Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu reportedly
packed out of her matrimonial home after
accusing her husband, Adeniyi Johnson, of
infidelity.
The award winning Yoruba actress was
rumoured to have sued for divorce when she
found out that her husband was making
advances at one of her female staff. The
worker in question allegedly confessed to Toyin
that had been asking her out for some time.
Not satisfied with the lady’s explanation, the
actress went on to fire her. But Niyi openly
confessed his role in the alleged scandal on
Instagram , admitting that his wife’s claims were
true. Pleading with his wife to give him another
chance, he promised to make up for his actions.
Skales versus Wizkid
Two of Nigeria’s most popular young artistes,
Skales and Wizkid, were at loggerheads with
each other for a while. Both of them engaged in
a bitter altercation on social media that saw
them using unprintable words against one
another.
It started when Skales accused Wizkid of
stealing his idea for a particular beat. He also
claimed to be the writer one of Wizkid’s hit
songs.
But Wizkid denied it, claiming that he paid for
the “Azonto beat” even as Skales insisted that
he created it.
Then the award-winning artiste, who was now
embarrassed, went on to tweet, “The dude
wearing fake chains and begging for money. I’ll
help finish your dead career!…Even when the
label wanted to dump you because you didn’t
make one naira for three years, I was there for
you.”
Deevee and Olamide
A music producer, Divine Austins, aka Deevee,
who is also the official producer of D’banj, took
to Twitter towards the end of the year to accuse
popular rapper, Olamide, of stealing ideas for
new songs from his boss.
In three tweets, Deevee claimed that Olamide
had been stealing concepts from D’banj’s
recording outlet, DB Records, each time he
visited the place in the past.
Addressing Olamide directly, he said, “With due
respect, have you run out of ideas? Every time
you come to our zones, you always got to steal
some idea. I won’t let this fly.”
The producer went on to provide a link to
‘Shake it’, a song by D’banj, which was one of
the reasons for the outburst on the social media
network. The other song believed to have been
lifted off an original idea by D’banj and his team
was Olamide’s ‘Don’t Stop’.
Olamide, who was named the Hottest Nigerian
Artiste in 2015 by MTV Base at the time, did
not respond to the allegations.

Winners Chapel denies Oyedepo’s retirement

The Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known
as Winners Chapel, on Friday, denied rumours
that the founder of the church, Bishop David
Oyedepo, was set to retire from active service.
In a text message sent to our correspondent
late on Friday, the Church’s Mandate Secretary,
Pastor Yemi Nathaniel, said any such reports
were not true.
He said, “Every apostolic ministry like ours is a
priestly commission and because priesthood is
for a lifetime, his (Oyedepo) presidency and
priesthood is for a lifetime.
“Moses, Joshua, Aaron ministered and his son
also did; Elijah, Elisha and Paul, among others.
Therefore any online publication purporting his
retirement is false.
“For those interested, the Red Book, The
Mandate, explains our succession plan. The
good news of generational success as promised
by God for the righteous must be causing pains
for the ignorant, the envious and the wicked.
Refuse to be a part of propagating evil.” Reports
on Friday had claimed that Oyedepo’s eldest
son, David Jnr, who presides over the branch of
the church in London, United Kingdom, was to
be named the resident pastor of Canaanland,
the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun State on
January 10.
According to reports, while operating as the
resident pastor of the Faith Tabernacle in Ota,
David Jnr will be saddled with the responsibility
of overseeing the activities of the church
worldwide.

Opening a Window to the Outside World with Computers

One in ten children in Nigeria are classified as
“vulnerable,” according to the Federal Ministry of
Women’s Affairs & Social Development
(FMWASD). A child is classified as vulnerable if,
because of the circumstances of birth or
immediate environment, is prone to abuse or
deprivation of basic needs, care and protection
and thus disadvantaged relative to his or her
peers. This makes Nigeria’s orphan and
vulnerable children burden one of the highest in
the world. A recent situation assessment and
analysis conducted by the FMWASD found that
approximately 80 per cent of these children were
not attending school.
“The rate of vulnerable children attending school
is particularly concerning as the best way to
alleviate poverty and create opportunities for
young people is to provide them with a quality
education,” said Uzo Nwagwu, Chief Operating
Officer for GE Nigeria Oil and Gas. “We at GE
feel strongly that if we can introduce education
to pupils through information technology, we can
start making a positive impact on the lives of
people who need our help the most.”
In December, GE teamed up with the AVSI
Foundation, which began its operations in Nigeria
in 1988. AVSI’s mission is to implement projects
to improve the situation of women and
vulnerable children through the provision of
education, health and capacity building.
While AVSI has been providing education to
vulnerable children at two schools in Lagos
State, SS. Peter and Paul Nursery and Primary
School in Ikate Elegushi and St. John Nursery
and Primary School in Oreta, they needed a
partner who could help them provide education
